Cambodian Bible launched on iPhone

(Pitched on March 31, 2013) Last Friday (good Friday), the first Khmer language Bible for iPhone application was launched and can be downloaded free of charge. The application will make it easier for Cambodian Christians to bring the Bible everywhere they go and search through it for consultation, according to a Pastor who worked for 12 years to translate the holy book.

The new Cambodian translation of the Bible was only published in 1997, he said. The older translation was written by non-native speakers and was practically incomprehensible for Cambodians. Other than using simple grammar and verb tenses, the new translation is also less literal. For instance, a phrase such as “white as snow” was changed into “white as cotton,” the pastor explained, since most Cambodians had never seen snow before.
